Starting an exercise programme is the easy bit, keeping it going takes a bit of incentive. Try these methods to help stay motivated: 1. Train with someone. Having an arrangement with someone means you are less likely to skip a session, even if the weathers terrible. 2. Schedule exercise into the weeks ahead. If you make diary entries to commit to specific classes or sessions, you are more likely to go. 3. Relieve boredom. If you are counting the seconds or number of reps until you are finished, try to focus on something else. Listen to some music or a language tape.
When I started the Weight-Loss Diary back in January, I was an overweight freelance writer struggling with my own confidence. Getting out of bed in the morning to work from home was often a test of will. Getting dressed, putting on my professional best and heading out into the world was virtually out of the question. I used my artists spirit as a safety belt that confined me to my own 9-5 schedule — and the confines of my condominium. Today, Im a full-time, out-of-the-house working girl.

Tighten thighs and buttocks by standing with you chair in front of you. Hold back of the chair, keep feet hip distance apart and ensure your hips and shoulders are above one another. Lower your bum as if sitting. Hold for five seconds and squeeze the buttocks. Repeat 15 times. Using a stable chair, place your hands next to your hips at the edge (fingers facing forwards) and move hips to the edge of the chair. Bend elbows back (not to side), lowering your body until the line of your hips and knees is at 90 degrees to the chair. Repeat ten times Try push-ups, sitting in your chair twisting from the waist. Incorporate weights by using water bottles to do biceps curls and straight arm lifts.
But Blahnik has the solution: a butt-kicking, circuit-style strength routine that works your entire body in 10 minutes using one piece of equipment. The device is the Smith machine: safe, simple to use, incredibly versatile and ideal for all fitness levels. The routine, adapted from Blahniks Serious Results video (Collage video, 1999), features five powerhouse moves that work several major muscle groups at once, burning more calories than most typical weight-machine moves and delivering tremendous toning and strength benefits. To round out the program, Blahnik has also included a series of 10-minute mini cardio blasts. But theres nothing small about any part of his program — except, of course, for the time commitment. how it works Youll combine a Smith machine with a flat bench. By using both ends of the bench, varying the bar height and lifting your body weight rather than weight plates, you can move quickly from one exercise to the next.
“The pressure is on. There is no time to do a long work-out but you know you really should do a few simple exercises. So stop making excuses and do them. If you have time to watch TV, you have time to work-out, even if its on the couch - a great place for stomach exercises. First, warm up either with a short, brisk walk, dancing to your favourite music or jogging around the block for five minutes or so. And, remember, if you are new to exercise, go to your doctor before starting any exercise programme, including this one.” 1 Lie on your side and bend your lower leg for a stable base. Keep your hips in line with your shoulders and your abdominals contracted inwards throughout the exercise to stabilise the spine and pelvis.

Construction of new homes, primarily in La Quinta, continues to dominate the Coachella Valley construction industry. With La Quinta issuing permits for 103 homes valued at $18,020,040, the valley toted up $58,789,335 in building valuations during November, a slight increase of .07 percent over last November.Again, La Quinta stood at the top of the chart, followed by Palm Desert with a $16,452,036 November total. In all, permits for 196 homes totaling $42,079,097 in valuations were issued.
Colorado Springs-area home construction continued its blistering pace in the first quarter, although one economist fears an oversupply could drive down prices in the next few years. Single-family home building permits totaled 1,392 from January through March — a 20.2 percent jump from the same period last year, according to figures released Friday by the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department. The number of permits this year puts Colorado Springs and El Paso County on pace to shatter the record of 5,059 single-family permits, set only last year.

Since scattering by molecules and particles is several fold higher at shorter than at longer wavelength it is not surprising that the percentage of diffuse UV-B is generally higher than that of UV-A. Furthermore, autumn and winter have the highest UV-B percentage of the global UV due to higher pathlength through the atmosphere, although the absolute values are lower in winter than in summer. Nevertheless under tree shadow the diffuse UV-B radiation ranges between 23% at noon in the spring to 59% in the afternoon at wintertime, whereas in the UV-A this range is between 17% and 31%. Within a season the percentage of diffuse UV-B was lower at noon than in the morning or in the afternoon, given with 58%, 62% and 71% respectively based on the average of all measurements whereas in the UV-A this percentages were 51%, 52% and 59%. The authors conclude that even in a shadow of a tree the percentages of diffuse UV are about 20% to 30% higher than in the full sun. Since UV-B radiation has been reported to increase cataracts and other eye diseases even at low UV-B exposures it was recommended to protect the eyes from lateral diffuse UV-B radiation especially in the shade by wearing sunglasses with lateral shields.

The aim is only to allow diplomats to carry out their functions with security and confidentiality, and also to recognise diplomats function as representatives of their country. It does not grant them freedom to flout local law, although they may be immune to local jurisdiction to enforce such laws. Contrary to a widespread belief, a diplomatic mission is not “extra-territorial”: it is, however, given the protection of inviolability within the receiving state. This rule refers to its premises and diplomatic dispatches. But all privileges and immunities are solely directed towards facilitating performance of diplomatic missions.

Whatever the parents attitude toward their childs spiritual aspirations, spirituality is an unavoidable issue in every family: the question of his or her origin, which every child asks, essentially pertains to spirituality.
According to Erik Erikson, trust “born of care is, in fact, the touchstone of the actuality of a given religion.” Erikson uses the term “religion,” but his insight about care and trust can easily apply to spirituality in general. While there is no formula for a healthy spiritual life, caring parents will, by inspiring a fundamental sense of trust and by respecting the spiritual aspects of birth, enable their children to freely develop a sense of spirituality and manifest it through a passionate and fulfilling involvement in life. Declaring that spirituality affirms childrens humanity and enhances their ability to understand lifes mysteries, Robert Coles advises parents to encourage a childs natural sense of wonderment and curiosity about spiritual issues. By their nature, children ask probing questions, and this desire to know, Coles affirms, “is also part of the moral development of children–a way for them to find a set of beliefs and ideals to guide their daily lives, a way for them to gain command of their behavior.”

Canadians born with a disability are likely to be happier than individuals who experienced a disability later in life, according to a study reported in Social Science Medicine. The study examines the factors that are related to people with disabilities and is based on Statistics Canada data. The study found that the sense of well being is independent of the type of physical disability.
The National Center on Educational Outcomes at the University of Minnesota describes how students with disabilities are doing in schools, academically and nonacademically, in a new report. The report, “Educational Results for Students With Disabilities: What Do the Data Tell Us,” relied on state accountability reports to discover what information states are giving the public. However, only 13 states provide academic data on students with disabilities.
The policy provides a way to focus coverage on the most serious conditions and offers a higher level of income protection at an affordable price.

Real estate is a popular investment among Canadians. There are several advantages to investing in real estate. Real estate is leveraged. You may pay only a fraction (as low as 10%) of what the property is worth when you buy it. Real estate has utility. If you buy stocks or bonds, you cannot do anything with them; but when you buy real estate, you can use it until you sell it. For example, you can live in a house.

Health is a measure of quality of life that is difficult to define and measure. In the 1940s, the World Health Organization (WHO) defined health as a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. At the first International Conference on Health Promotion in Ottawa, Canada (1986), the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion built on the WHOs concept and further defined health as a resource for everyday life. a positive concept emphasizing social and personal resources, as well as physical capabilities. Good health enables one to function independently within a changing environment.

She says she wrote the book because when she went to look for the information, it wasnt there. And so, author and Dance Magazine contributor Janice Ross began her methodical detective work on the myth and magic of Margaret HDoubler, the woman credited with establishing the first dance degree program in a U.S. university. Conducting personal interviews, locating and sorting through uncatalogued, dusty archives and photographs, comparing ancient university catalogues, recognizing and retrieving untitled lesson plans, Ross carefully discovered and documented the growth of dance at the University of Wisconsin. But facts alone werent enough for this scholar. Carefully analyzing the context in which a dance program was allowed, Ross sketches the end of the constraints of the Victorian age and the feminist liberation through changes in fashion, health practices and physical education for women. She relates HDoublers affinity with John Deweys progressive education concepts, which emphasized not recitation of a body of facts to be learned but the personal growth of the individual through acquisition of knowledge and experiential discovery. Politically and strategically, HDoubler maneuvered to prove that movement exists as a unique and valid way of knowing, and that such a personal education is valuable not only as a vocational objective but as a lifetime enrichment. Her philosophy is reflected in virtually every academic dance program in the United States today.

Outbound Telemarketing
June 26th, 2008
Outbound telesales programs account for $400 billion of goods and services sold annually in the United States, and commercial sales make up 94 percent of it. Like telephone and financial companies after deregulation, electric utilities will be in a position to build similar outbound telesales campaigns to market their core product as well as peripheral products and services. If you want to reach, say, one million consumers in a year, you would need 25-30 telesales agents calling daily. The annual cost for this kind of program would run between $2 and $3 per contact. A business-to-business program that calls for reaching the same number of people yearly would generally demand 40-45 telesales agents calling every day, with an annual cost of $3-$4 per decisionmaker contact.

CATEGORY REVIEW * The freezer case is getting a little more crowded as consumers become acquainted with gelato and frozen custard. Amazingly, grocers are finding themselves having to make room in their freezer cases once again, as a new trend emerges in frozen desserts. Not surprisingly, it reflects consumers growing penchant for rich, decadent, full-flavor offerings. This time around, the products themselves - gelato and frozen custard - arent necessarily new. On the contrary, theyve been foodservice favorites in select regions for years. For the most part, however, the mainstream American consumer hasnt been exposed to them, particularly at retail.

LAWYERS who had wanted General Pinochet extradited were still trying early last week to decide what “legal steps” they could take to stop him going to Chile. For some reason I found myself thinking of the sad advertisements one used to see occasionally in the personal columns: “Public school man seeks interesting job, anything legal considered.” But of course I was confusing two different functions of the word legal. Ethical began by meaning “to do with ethics”, and only later came to mean being good. The purist in me still winces when someone says “aesthetic” when they mean “in good taste”. (Aesthetic originally meant “to do with the science of perception”, then “to do with taste”, good, bad or indifferent.) But there was never any need for legal to carry two meanings, because theres a perfectly good alternative that takes half the burden off it: lawful, a nice old word from the late Middle Ages (its parent word, law, appears to be of ancient Scandinavian origin). Everyone understands the difference between “legal business” and the “lawful business” that most of us spend our lives going about. Why couldnt those job-seekers have put “anything lawful considered”? Lawyers use lawful, too; they speak of a “lawful killing”. They dont say “a legal killing” (which, if it meant anything, would presumably refer to their fees).

Many of the trucks you see on the roads today are insured on one of three commercial auto insurance contracts: the truckers form, the motor carrier form or the business auto form. The truckers form is used for firms hauling only goods owned by others. The motor carrier form insures firms hauling both their own goods and the goods of others. The business auto form is used to cover firms hauling only goods that they own. The Insurance Services Office, Inc. (ISO), promulgates all three contracts. We will discuss the exclusions under the business auto policy and how to provide coverage for the excluded risks. To do so, we will consider several examples. In a fictitious example, MBF Corp.s (MBF) annual planning conference was going to be held at a mountain lodge. Conference attendees from all over the country would need to fly into a nearby town, rent four-wheel drive vehicles and drive about 20 miles to the lodge. The last five miles of the route required four-wheel drive vehicles because there was no pavement, only a trail created by vehicles driving over the mountain terrain. In spots, this trail was steep and in other places it was steeply slanted to one side or the other.

What benefits do potential employees get pumped up about the most? Child care? Company car? Try health club memberships, according to a survey of 1,058 recently unemployed managers by Lee Hecht Harrison, a Woodcliff Lake, N.J.-based outplacement firm. The survey found 58 percent of job seekers want their employer to pay for a health club membership, but only 8 percent believe they will receive it. Nearly as many of those surveyed also wanted flexible schedules, outplacement services, a company car and a cell phone or laptop computer.
For more than a decade, Brian Peters has been a key link between the state and employers looking for worker training and development programs. As director of the division of business services for the state Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Peters oversees operations ranging from one-stop career centers to outplacement services for laid-off workers. The divisions latest venture is assisting the Community College Consortium, a group formed last year to develop and market company training programs. Peters, 55, discussed the consortium and the role of his division with Managing Editor John Greenwald. Peters: Its an initiative the colleges have been pursuing for some time to bring together the various 19 colleges under one leadership-in this case Bob Bowman, who had been successful in forming a similar consortium in Pennsylvania-for purposes of marketing themselves to the business community. It stems from [the governors] Executive Order 81, which boosted the colleges role in corporate training and provided them more access to the economic development agencies at the state level, such as the Economic Development Authority (EDA) and the Commerce and Economic Growth Commission. The consortium works with our department for many of the customized training programs that we provide to companies. NJBIZ: Whats an example of the consortiums work?

Making Money: An Insiders Perspective on Finance, Politics, and Canadas Central Bank, by John Crow. Etobicoke, Ontario: John Wiley Sons Canada. 2002. Cloth, ISBN: 0470831804, $25.50. 256 pages. The first part deals with the domestic role of monetary policy and the progressive elaboration of a coherent central banking policy in Canada. This part starts with a historical account of the role of the Central Bank of Canada since its creation in 1934. Then, the author develops an interesting chapter about the proper role of a central bank for financial stability by looking at the Canadian experience regarding bank supervision, settlement management, systemic and liquidity crises, and the lender-of-last-resort operation. The Central Bank of Canada never has been directly involved in the supervision of banks, and John Crow is rightly unhappy with this situation: “The Bank and what it knows cannot be ignored in supervisory decisions regarding financial institutions” (p. 77). The second part of the book analyzes the Canadian experience concerning foreign affairs. The most interesting part concerns exchange rate matters. Canada has a long tradition of a flexible exchange rate regime. The author shows the importance of communicating with financial market actors to limit disruptions in the exchange rate, but he also recognizes that the willingness to be transparent can lead “to confusion instead of clarity” (p. 120).

In one of the City of Los Angeles most novel financing deals, the city issued $198 million in judgment obligation bonds to obtain the money to pay off a series of lawsuits — and Bank of America bit.BofA led a syndicate of 30 investors who purchased the 320,000 10-year judgment bonds July 28 at an interest rate of 4.9 percent. City experts reckoned its cheaper to “borrow” the money via the bond offering and pay back investors at todays low interest rates than it would have been to pay off the settlement over time, with interest accruing. The judgment bonds were 15 basis points lower (100 basis points equal one percentage point) than the citys general obligation bonds sold just a week earlier, noted Wes Hough, a financial adviser to the city.

Self-help groupsMost self-help groups are voluntary, non-profit associations open to anyone with a similar need or interest; however, spin-off groups also exist to meet the needs of particular types of people; for example, the elderly, women, or Hispanics. Usually, groups are led by peers, have an informal structure, and are free (except for small donations to cover meeting expenses). However, professionals of various kinds lead some self-help groups.
Cognitive behaviour therapy is well regarded and evidence based as a treatment for depression. But practitioners are in short supply. The Glasgow START project has sought to remedy this with a combination of self-help workers and a range of materials and courses often delivered in surprising settings. Chris Williams et al describe how the project works Full title: Using self-help in Practice: the Glasgow START Project. Authors: Ann McCreath and Theresa OBrien are nurse trainers, NHS Greater Glasgow. Liz Rafferty is self-help lead, NHS Greater Glasgow.
When the French aristocrat, Alexis de Tocqueville, was sent by the French government to America in 1831 to study the American prison system, he took copious notes on all aspects of American life. De Tocqueville published his observations as Democracy in America in 1835. He was particularly impressed by an American disposition for forever forming associations, whether religious, moral, serious, futile, very general or very limited. He observed that As soon as Americans have conceived a sentiment or idea that they want to produce before the world, they seek each other out, and when found, they unite. Thenceforward they are no longer isolated individuals, but a power conspicuous from a distance whose actions serve as an example; when they speak, people listen.De Tocquevilles American contemporary, Ralph Waldo Emerson, emphasizes the$vital importance of confidence based on self-trust in his essay Self-Reliance (1841). This finds an echo in modern self help manuals. The American psychiatrist, M Scott Peck, in his bestselling The Road Less Travelled (1978) advocates self-discipline, restraint and personal responsibility. So is there something culturally specific to America that made it the home of self help? And can it transfer to the UK mental health context?

The Disneyization of Society By Alen Bryman SAGE Publications, New Delhi, 2004; Pages: 199; Price: Rs. 800; ISBN: 0781967648, 0761967656 One of the main foundations for Disneyization, according to Bryman, is that of increasing the appeal of goods and services and the settings in which they are purveyed in the increasingly homogenized environments that are the products of McDonaldization. Disneyization, by and large, connects with a post-Fordist world of variety and choice in which consumers reign supreme. The author argues that day-by-day modern life is becoming themed in a similar way in which Disney theme parks are themed. As the balance of peoples consumption is slowly shifting from goods to services, they begin to seek more from services. At the same time, service providers are well-aware that many consumers are increasingly bored with the standardized services and settings with which they are typically confronted. This has forced the service providers to adopt themed environments for their businesses, and the author clearly points out that Disneylands approach to theming has undoubtedly influenced other applications such as amusement parks, restaurants, hotels, malls, zoos, museums, and holiday destinations.

Pocket gophers are fossorial (burrowing) rodents–so named because they have fur-lined pouches outside the mouth, one on each side of the face. These pockets, which are capable of being fumed inside out, are used for carrying food. Pocket gophers are powerfully built in the forequarters and have a short neck; the head is fairly small and flattened. The forepaws are large-clawed and the lips close behind large incisors. This feature allows them to use their incisors for digging without getting a mouthful of dirt, a unique feature to gophers. There are over 30 species of pocket gophers in the Western Hemisphere. Pocket gophers vary in size from 5 1/2 inches in length to over 13 inches in length. Litter sizes vary from one to 10 but typically average three to four. In the northern part of their range they have one litter per year, as opposed to up to two in the southern ranges. Young gophers are dispersed above ground and are capable of swimming as well on the search for suitable habitat to begin new burrow systems. Pocket gophers feed in three ways: they feed on roots, above-ground vegetation, and they pull vegetation into their tunnel to be stored in food caches for later consumption. In the vineyard, pocket gophers girdle vines, damage roots systems (most often in new plantings), and cause multiple-irrigation problems by promoting erosion and damaging drip lines. They are solitary little beasts, vigorously maintaining and defending their tunnel system. Depending on the species and available habitat, gopher population density may vary from six to eight per acre, to up to 62 per acre. Gophers do not hibernate and only cohabitate during the breeding season The burrowing activity of one gopher produces up to 70 mounds in one month. So how do you control such an active but solitary rodent? The fact that a gopher is solitary works to your advantage. You have three basic pest management tools for gopher control: Biological control, chemical control and trapping.
Pest controllers locate, identify, repel, and destroy pests. They use their knowledge of pests habits, along with an arsenal of pest management techniques-applying chemicals, setting traps, operating equipment, and even modifying building structures-to alleviate pest problems. The best known method of pest control is pesticide application. Pest controllers apply two different types of pesticides: common use and restricted use. Common use pesticides are the most widely used and are readily available; in diluted concentrations, they are available to the public. Restricted use pesticides are available only to professionals for the most severe infestations. Their application is regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) because of their potential harm to pest controllers, customers, and the environment.

divorce lawyer new york city
June 20th, 2008
The image of a wild-eyed Heather Mills declaring her legal victory over Sir Paul McCartney on the steps of the High Court last week was one that emblazoned itself on the memories of all who had followed the couples epic divorce battle for months. But the incident, and the outlandish media circus that surrounded one of the most expensive divorces in history, has made one thing clear to Britains leading lawyers: enough is enough. Fearing that a series of high-profile celebrity separations have brought the whole business of divorce into disrepute, 19 top City and West End lawyers, who represent a wide range of wealthy clients, have come together with the aim of bringing dignity and decorum back to breaking up.
Lawyers who handle collaborative divorce cases are passionate about the method. They tout it as a kinder, gentler way to do divorce, a process that saves clients money and reduces the hostility between the soon- to-be exes. But some family law attorneys are, to put it mildly, unconvinced. They believe collaborative divorce is useful for the occasional couple but is, in general, a minefield of inflated hopes and potential ethical problems.
buy cheap cell phones
June 20th, 2008
A new study funded by Motorola Corp. suggests that cell phones do not pose a cancer disk, reports Promotive Communications Inc. However, experts say its too soon to rule out a negative health impact of cell phones. A 13-nation study on the relationship between cell phones and brain tumors is under way. The results are expected to be released in 2004.
The news is sobering. Driving while talking on a cell phone is the same as driving drunk. Motorists who use a cell phone are just as distracted, slow to react and as easily confused as motorists tipsy from drinking. And a drunk driver using a cell phone is more dangerous than a runaway train. The implication is clear. No more “one last call for the road” for Americas habitual phoners. The concern is that, like alcoholics, chronic cell phone users are in denial. They dont believe their “habit” has a negative effect, mostly because it doesnt feel that way. Once a person is off the phone, the cell phone driver immediately “sobers up” and returns to normal alertness and reaction times. Its those few minutes when that phone is off the hook, or even being voice activated, that is the killer — quite literally.

Throughout e last century, the Levy family has bee serving New York Citys real estate community in many ways. Today, Appraiser and Planners, Inc. boasts three generations of family members who are active principals in the company, as well as an extended family of appraisers who have been part of the staff for more than 20 years. Firm members; including Edward Levy, his son James L. Levy and granddaughter Caren Levy Greenhouse, have appraised buildings ranging from the 101-store Empire State Building to single-family homes, and in general, cover a territory that includes five states as well as the metropolitan area. Their portfolio appraisals often comprise buildings all across the country and they have valued the Warner Brothers movie studios in California, major hotels, resorts, conference centers, golf courses, shopping centers, office complexes and apartment buildings, among others.
Ranked by the number of licensed real estate appraisers in L.A. County offices THE fundamental role of a real estate appraiser is to provide a professional opinion, usually an estimate of propertys market value. Typically, appraisers are employed by lenders to estimate the value of real estate involved in a loan transaction. Appraisers also provide opinions in litigation cases, tax matters and investment decisions.
The safety and soundness of loans secured by real estate depend on adequate underwriting supporting the transaction and thorough ongoing account management. A valuation of the real estate collateral–an essential component of these processes–consists of either a valid real estate appraisal or evaluation. This article looks at appraisals. Most real estate collateral valuation requirements are imposed by banking regulations, appraisal standards, and statutes. All banks should have copies of the following regulations and standards: * Title XI of the Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery, and Enforcement Act of 1989 (FIRREA).

IASC FOUNDATION AMENDS CONSTITUTION TO EXPAND THE PACTICAL EXPERIENCE OF ITS INTERPRETATIONS COMMITTEE The Trustees of the International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC) Foundation, the oversight body of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) has published amendments to the Foundations Constitution reflecting its wish that the membership of the International Financial Reporting Interpretations Committee (IFRIC) should have greater diversity of practical experience. The constitutional changes enlarge the IFRIC from 12 to 14 members, and amend the quorum and voting requirements accordingly. The International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) has completed the second phase of its business combinations project by issuing a revised version of IFRS 3 - Business Combinations ana an amended version of IAS 27 - Consolidated and Separate Financial Statements. The new requirements take effect on 1 July 2009, although entities are permitted to adopt them earlier.
ACCOUNTINGAccounting is a field of specialization critical to the functioning of all types of organizations. Accounting often is referred to as the language of business because of its role in maintaining and processing all relevant financial information that an entity requires for its managing and reporting purposes.Accountants often have a specific subspecialization and function at one of several levels. Preparation for the field is provided by secondary schools, postsecondary business schools, community colleges, and four-year colleges and universities.
ACCOUNTING PRACTICES COMMITTEE ISSUES EXPOSURE DRAFT ON IMPROVEMENTS TO INTERNATIONAL ACCOUNTING STANDARDS The exposure draft is the first product of the IASBs improvements project, which aims to raise the quality and consistency of financial reporting by drawing on best practice from around the world, and removing options in international standards. The improvements project is a first step by the IASB to promote convergence on high quality solutions in its objective to establish a globally accepted set of accounting standards. The release of the exposure draft marks the IASBs initial response to the demand for the continued development and rapid improvement of international standards by market participants, including regulators, through the International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), national standard-setters, the IASBs Standards Advisory Council and other commentators. The project has been given added impetus by the European Unions proposals to require publicly listed companies to use international standards from January 2005.

Available Immediately at Sportline.com, the ECG-Accurate TQR 775 Marks First Integration of Heart-Rate Technology Into Fashionable Analog Sport Watch Market YONKERS, N.Y. — Sportline, the brand leader in personal fitness monitoring, is introducing the newest and most fashionable member of the companys range of fitness watches - the TQR 775 (pronounced tick-er) mens heart rate watch. It is well known that monitoring your heart rate during exercise will maximize the effectiveness of any workout. However, most people do not typically use heart-rate monitors outside of a fitness-oriented setting even though maintaining awareness to ones resting heart rate on a daily basis can be an excellent indicator of overall health and fitness.
The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) Committee on Practice Bulletins-Obstetrics recently released a practice bulletin on fetal heart rate monitoring. ACOG Practice Bulletin No. 62 was published in the May 2005 issue of Obstetrics and Gynecology. According to the ACOG committee, the false-positive rate of electronic fetal monitoring for predicting adverse outcomes is high. Data showed that the use of electronic fetal monitoring increased the likelihood of cesarean delivery and the use of vacuum or forceps operative vaginal deliveries when compared with intermittent auscultation. Electronic fetal monitoring does not appear to reduce the incidence of cerebral palsy or overall perinatal mortality, although perinatal mortality caused by fetal hypoxia seems to be reduced. The practice bulletin recommends that the heart rate of patients without complications be reviewed every 30 minutes during the first stage of labor and every 15 minutes during the second stage. For patients with complications (e.g., fetal growth restriction, preeclampsia), fetal heart rate should be reviewed every 15 minutes during the first stage of delivery and every five minutes during the second stage. Patients with high-risk conditions should be monitored continuously during labor. The ACOG committee recommends that physicians document and store the fetal heart rate tracings.

hospitalnursing If youre on your feet all day, learn how to find shoes that really fit. If you wear shoes that dont fit well, you may be inviting or exacerbating bunions, corns, calluses hammertoes, and other foot problems. To prevent problems and keep you on your feet, the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, the National Shoe Retailers Association, and the Pedorthic Footwear Association offer this advice: 1. Evaluate shoes by how they fit, not by the size marked on the label. Sizes vary among brands and styles.
First, the back-to-nature promise of Earth Shoes resonated with members of the burgeoning environmental movement. Second, the boxy appearance of the shoe was viewed as an antifashion statement; as such, it was a social statement favoring simplicity over image, substance over style. In time the square, broad shape of the Earth Shoe was emulated in a wide range of other shoes; for a few years its look became a hallmark style of the 1970s.
